The Junior Police Academy is a week-long intensive experience for Passaic County Children between the ages of 11 and 14.

This highly successful program introduces our youth to the field of law enforcement and the operations of the Passaic County Sheriff's Office. Conducted at the Passaic County Police Academy, the program is organized by the Community Policing Division, and run by officers of the Passaic County Sheriff's Office. The goal of the program is to motivate young people to be outstanding citizens through a taste of law enforcement education.

The academy experience transforms the traditional role of the police officer into one of mentor and friend, while encouraging our young citizens to be partners, not adversaries, in building safer schools and communities.

The curriculum deals with physical fitness, drill and ceremony, discipline, respect, courtesy, teamwork, conflict resolution, and various other life aspects. The Junior Police Academy cadets get a chance to see first hand what is involved in a law enforcement career. A wide range of specialized demonstrations are performed for the cadets including mounted, motorcycle, and K-9 patrol, crime scene investigation, SWAT, first aid, haz-mat, scuba, narcotics and gang education/prevention, and so much more! A uniform shirt, cap, water bottle, snacks, lunch, a photo ID card are issued and at the end of the week a certificate of completion at the graduation ceremony will be issued by the Sheriff.
