Sheriff Thomas Adamo was sworn in as the 50th Sheriff of Passaic County on November 26, 2024. Sheriff Adamo began his career as a Corrections Officer with the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office. In 1997, he attended the Basic Police Class at the Passaic County Police Academy and was nominated as Class President by his fellow recruits. After successfully completing the academy, he was transferred to the Patrol Division.
Sheriff Adamo was later promoted to detective and assigned to the Sheriff’s Anti-Crime Unit and later assigned to the NJ DEA Task Force. In 2010, he was promoted to Sergeant and assigned to the Sheriff’s Motorcycle/Traffic Unit. In 2015, he was promoted to Detective Lieutenant, where he was the Commanding Officer of the Narcotics Division, Internet Crimes Unit and Criminal Investigations Division. In January of 2017, he was promoted to Detective Captain and assumed command of the Special Investigations, where he oversaw all Administrative Investigations. In February 2020 he was promoted to Chief.
Sheriff Adamo has received numerous awards throughout his career. He was a member of the Hurricane Katrina Response Team in 2005, and in 2009 received the Valor Award from the Passaic County 200 Club.
Sheriff Adamo is married with two children and has been a lifelong resident of Passaic County.
