The Passaic County Sheriff's Office proudly offers two dynamic youth programs designed to introduce students to the world of law enforcement in a hands-on, engaging, and structured environment. Both academies are hosted at the Passaic County Police Academy and run by experienced members of our Community Policing Division.
Junior Police Academy
Ages 11–14 | One-Week Summer Program
The Junior Police Academy is an exciting, week-long summer experience for children between the ages of 11 and 14 who reside in Passaic County. The goal of the academy is to build strong character, discipline, teamwork, and respect—while offering a first-hand introduction to the roles and responsibilities of law enforcement.
Highlights include:
- Physical fitness & daily drills
- Team-building & leadership skills
- Conflict resolution & respect-based instruction
- Hands-on demonstrations from specialized units including:
- K-9 Unit

- Motorcycle & Mounted Patrol

The program transforms officers into mentors and role models, giving students a unique and positive view of law enforcement while encouraging civic responsibility and community partnership.
Enrollment is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis when registration opens.
Junior Cadet Academy
Ages 15–17 | Eight-Week Fall and Spring Program (Saturdays)
For older students with a serious interest in a career in law enforcement, the Junior Cadet Academy offers an intensive, two-month training experience. Held on Saturday mornings, this program simulates real police academy-style training and is designed to prepare students for the physical, mental, and academic challenges of a future career in law enforcement.
This academy focuses on:
- Law enforcement career preparation
- Physical conditioning & discipline
- Drill & ceremony
- Critical thinking & teamwork
- Exposure to tactical operations and daily responsibilities of a police officer
Applicants must complete a written essay as part of the selection process. Enrollment is highly competitive and limited based on merit and interest.
