Community Release Center (CRC)

The Passaic County Sheriff’s Office Community Release Center (CRC) provides secure, cost-effective alternatives to traditional incarceration for low-level offenders. These supervised programs not only support public safety but also generate thousands of dollars in revenue annually and offer significant savings to taxpayers. CRC initiatives include the Sheriff’s Labor Assistance Program (S.L.A.P.) and the Home Detention and GPS Electronic Monitoring Program.

In addition to serving the courts, CRC supports local communities by offering services to Passaic County municipalities through programs like Clean Parks, and by assisting community-based and non-profit organizations with supervised labor resources.

Sheriff’s Labor Assistance Program (S.L.A.P.)

S.L.A.P. offers a structured alternative to jail time for low-level, non-violent offenders. Instead of being incarcerated, participants report daily to the S.L.A.P. Office and are assigned to supervised work crews led by correctional police officers. These crews perform community service projects across Passaic County, including park cleanups and public works support.

This program benefits the county in multiple ways: it reduces incarceration costs, provides valuable labor to local communities, and is largely self-funded through a processing fee paid by participants.

Home Detention & GPS Electronic Monitoring

Designed for non-violent, low-level offenders, this program allows individuals to serve their sentence under strict home detention conditions. Participants must be employed and are required to remain at their residence when not at work. Each individual wears a GPS ankle monitor, and their movements are tracked 24/7 in real-time.

All program costs are the responsibility of the offender, reducing financial burden on taxpayers while maintaining public safety and accountability.
