The Passaic County Sheriff's Office does not operate its own County Jail Facility.  Our short-term processing facility is located in Wayne, NJ and it's function is to process and commit adult persons and then transfer them to a partner facility.

Passaic County maintains a shared services agreement with both Bergen County and Hudson County for the care, custody, and control of its inmate population.

  • Males are transferred to the Bergen County Jail in Hackensack, NJ.
  • Females are transferred to the Hudson County Department of Corrections in Kearny, NJ.
  • At times, some of the Passaic County male population may be housed in Hudson County.

In certain circumstances and depending on the operational needs and capability of the facility, eligible individuals that are admitted into our Facility in Wayne between the hours of 6:30am-10:30am (subject to change) may have a short-term stay to attend a same-day court appearance; otherwise, their court appearance will be held at a partner facility.  If a court appearance from the Wayne Facility was conducted, those persons will either be transferred to a partner facility or will undergo the beginning stages of the discharge process following the conclusion of court.

The majority of committed persons are transferred and scheduled for a court appearance at a partner facility.
